Commissioner of Police Ellison Greenslade dismissed suggestions that two senior police officers recently promoted to the rank of deputy commissioner and the promotion of Assistant Commissioner Stephen Dean to senior assistant commissioner yesterday, were politically motivated.

On Sunday, Greenslade announced the appointments of Senior Assistant Commissioner Anthony Ferguson and Senior Commissioner Emrick Seymour to the rank of deputy commissioner of police.

The promotions came into effect on January 1, 2017.

During a press conference at police headquarters, Greenslade announced the promotion of 10 chief superintendents to the rank of assistant commissioner.

Those promoted to that rank are Leamond Deleveaux, Ashton Greenslade, Kendall Strachan, Samuel Butler, Elbert Ferguson, Paul Rolle, Ismella Davis, Clayton Fernander, Clarence Reckley and Theophilus Cunningham.

Additionally, 20 superintendents were promoted to chief superintendents.

The commissioner assured that he selected the list of officers to be promoted.

“Why don’t I give you a bit more information so we could dispel all this stupid views that some people might have?” Greenslade asked.

“I typed the list of promotions, Ellison Elroy Greenslade, commissioner, technocrat.

“I hope that is as straight as it can be for you.”

Minister of National Security Dr. Bernard Nottage said the need for an expanded executive team became a priority after a number of senior officers retired.

“I want to congratulate the commissioner himself for the sterling work that he was able do and the things he was able to achieve in spite of the fact that he was short staffed at the senior level, and I ask those of you who know to express our collective thanks to Commissioner Greenslade for the work that he has done, but now he will have all the support he needs at this level,” Nottage said.

Greenslade asked the public not to rob the officers who have been promoted of their joy.

“Anything that you saw on cyber space that you think is a leak is not a promotion list,” he said.

“You can’t leak something that you don’t have.

“I visited Government House a short while ago and collected from Her Excellency [Governor General Dame Marguerite Pindling], as per proper procedures, letters for the senior team assembled here.

“I delivered those letters, the commissioner of police. And I stand on my credibility.”

Ellison Greenslade is a superior Commissioner, while with the FBI, I have known and worked with every Commissioner since Salathiel Thompson. He is as good or better than most. His integrity is beyond reproach. His choice of Anthony Ferguson and Emrick Seymour could not have been better.
